Microsoft Offers Concession To Students On The New Windows 7

thumbnail
Students in UK, if you are aware of this, October 1st onwards  Microsoft will retail the all new windows 7 at a very low rate, specially for you, and this is a limited offer, so get off your asses and make a bee-line to your nearest retailer. For students in the US it has not yet been confirmed but will be sold to students for $30. A Microsoft representative stated that the offer was designed specifically for those students who won’t be going in for new PC’s or laptops this year but would like to have the advantage of using the new windows7. The students who order the new software from the 1st of October will be able to download it on or after the 22nd October when it is officially launched to the public. But to avail of this deal, a valid, college e-mail address is required. Similar plans are to be announced in Canada, Germany, Australia, Korea, Mexico and France, although the prices for which the windows 7  [...]

Lunar Orbiter Starts Mapping The Moon, Traces Out Hydrogen

thumbnail
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, after two-months of site surveillance and measurements, was put into a 31 mile high mapping orbit by the NASA engineers. The $504 million spacecraft’s instruments are analyzing the possibilities of iced water present on the moon. NASA's chief lunar scientist, Michael Wargo made a statement saying that, “The moon is starting to reveal her secrets, but some of those secrets are tantalizingly complex”. The NASA engineers and the scientists expect the spacecraft to find traces of hydrogen, which is the biggest indicator to point out the possibility of some water presence. They are scanning the shadowed crater of the south –pole and also craters which were struck by craters years ago by comets billions of years ago. There is a probability of ice formation in these craters. To the delight of the scientists, the spacecraft detected certain areas of the moons surface that does not rise above 33Kelvin, and also  [...]

Review Of The Lenovo ThinkPad T400s Touch Laptop

thumbnail
Let me start with the highlight of this one… the touchscreen display. I must say that this one is a highly responsive one, and there was hardly any hindrance in registering the touches. At times however it failed to recognize the nail presses. This one comes loaded with Windows 7 touch applications and trust me it’s a whole lot of fun to use them. Scrolling through the browser can be done by just swiping the finger up and down, pictures can be rotated by just turning the finger. Coming to the glitches I sincerely wish that either Microsoft or Lenovo does something about the Operating systems widgets or buttons because frankly its easier to use a mouse on those tiny shortcuts in the start menu but its kind of difficult to be doing that using the fingers. The speakers of this one are pretty decent as well. The sound was absolutely distortion free while playing ‘hysteria’ by Muse and was also pretty much balanced. Though it isn’t that loud, I would still recommend turning the  [...]

thumbnail
With the thought of reviving the radio experience, Pure has launched the Sensia which is touted to do to the radio what the iphone did to the mobile. Its basically an internet connected digital audio system. Dell Core i7 Studio XPS 8000: Drool

thumbnail
Dell is definitely trying to aim at two target audiences with the launch of the Core i7 Studio XPS 8000 desktop. Not only is it trying to pull in the gamers, but the home cinema watchers as well. Well why do I say this?? Its just because this one comes loaded with 7.1 high-definition surround sound, Blu-ray player and 3D capabilities. And that’s definitely not where the list ends. This one has an Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 Graphics Card and this coupled with the Core i7, it’s surely something worth placing your bets on. This brings along with it a spectacular gaming experience with 3D graphics. According to the makers, the curves that this one offers haven’t been put up there just for the heck of it. Apparently everything out there on display has been built for convenience and endurance. With all these features it already has many gamers going gaga over it. This one could be yours for £799 without the monitor and if you want the whole assembled  [...]

Touch What You See

thumbnail
Seeing is believing, but I guess for the scientists at Japan the phrase could be reframed as touching is believing. At Nintendo Wii, the Japanese scientists have come up with an unique way to interact with 3D images which gives you a feeling of having touched the objects. There are Wii-mote controllers to keep a track of the movement and also there is use of ultra sound to apply pressure so that the user feels like its touching it. So far the technology has been used only on small objects but using it to create virtual light switches is also on the cards. Holography had always been used to give the 3D sort of an effect to the user but whenever the user used to touch the hologram, the hand used to pass right through it. But with the launch of this new technology a sensation of touch could be added to the holograms. Well, I really cant think of many instances where this technology could come in as handy, but surely this technology  [...]

Left 4 Dead Game: Dead Down Under

thumbnail
The sequel to the insanely popular Left 4 Dead has been banned from Australia because it could not be categorized as  +15. According to the reports the board said that the sequel contained a lot of violence which was not suitable enough for under 18 viewing. In Australia the game rating is either suitable for above 15 year old viewing or it is not. The game classification system out there does not have any above 18 rating system. If any game fails to get the 15 + rating, then that means the game is effectively banned in the country. This comes in as a huge setback for the Gametraders as they were expecting a real good market Down Under. Also Chad Polley national marketing manager of Gametraders added that the decision was hugely disappointing. However they are hoping that the board comes up with some above 18 classsification  to prevent the game and the others who fall in the same category from being banned. The other games  [...]

Google: Chrome3.0 Unveiled

thumbnail
Well for all the Chrome fans… Google has announced the launch of the Chrome Version 3.0. Frankly there ain’t  any point getting into the number game because that doesn’t mean that Google has got any more mature than it already is, it’s probably just Google’s way of emphasizing its news features. However, most of the users wouldn’t even notice the change in the version because Google automatically updates the browser. Though most of us would agree that its one of the fastest browsers available today, with the Chrome 3.0 its performance has improved more with Google claiming to improve the Javascripts by about 150% since the launch of the original Beta version. Following Microsoft, Chrome supports themes as well now. So you could change the themes everyday by selecting from one of the 28 available themes. Also continuing with the visual tweaks, the new tab section can be easily customized  [...]

Review Of The Samsung Cell Phone- SGH-T659

thumbnail
Like the other phones from Samsung even this one has a 1000 entry phonebook along with other features like the vibrate mode, alarm clock, calculator, timer, speakerphone, memo list, a unit and currency converter. Keeping the basic features aside this one also offers support for Bluetooth, GPS and PC syncing. This one also includes the POP3 email support. This one also comes loaded with a 2 megapixel camera and lets the user take pictures in four resolutions ranging from 1,600x1,200 to 320x240. It also offers a few editing options. The camcorder offers a decent 176x144 resolution. The photo quality is pretty much decent and exhibits hardly any noise. The photos are also bright and quite vibrant. Once the user is done taking the pictures, the pictures can easily be transferred using the Bluetooth support or can be stored on the phone itself which offers an inbuilt memory of 80MB. However the memory is expandable so I would recommend using a separate memory card for storage.

Sony Ericsson: Change Music Forever

thumbnail
21st of September is the day when Music is going to change forever. No no, I aint trying to be dramatic here… that’s just what the Sony Ericsson website has to say. Well the website has surely sent music lovers into a state of trance and we here are Techsoft are trying to explicitly figure out what Sony Ericsson wants to say with “Change music forever”. The buzz doing the rounds is that this could be the first touchscreen walkman or probably even the Android powered Rachael. But the possibility of it being the first one seems to be more likely because it says “ Change music forever “. Sony has already branded it as the “new ground breaking technology”. Its surely got all the techies and the music lovers excited but all I could hope for is that this isn’t another launch gimmick for some other music accessory. LOL. With all the hype being created around it if this one turns to be a music accessory  [...]
