Sony VPL-HW10 – Good color accuracy

thumbnail
Sony VPL-HW10 has excellent picture quality; the color reproduction is relatively accurate and the black levels too are relatively deep. However, the primary colors could have been better, I noticed a few artifacts with the 1080i sources but this is not unforgivable considering the price of the projector. The performance is better than the less expensive Sanyo PLV-Z2000. While setting up, I used the Standard mode for my tests. I initially started with Low color temperature. The quality was similar to that of broadcast standard. The bottom end was off so I tried to correct through the Custom color temperatures using the grayscale controls. Normal color space setting was also used since it came pretty close to ATSC specifications for red, blue and green primary colors. I was disappointed to see that they cannot be corrected. Overall color on the Sony VPL-HW10 is better than what I expected, the primary colors were better than most of the projectors in this price range. I also liked  [...]

Sony PlayStation 3 Slim review – No backward compatibility with PS2 games

thumbnail
Sony PlayStation 3 Slim is nowhere similar to the predecessor in terms of looks. The manufacturer has cut down the fat and the price too has significantly reduced. This console was released in early September this year and is expected to do better than the original PS3 because of some new additions. The gadget now has a textured surface which gives it a casual look. It goes with the overall theme of a gaming product. The earlier model had a shiny piano black finish and Sony has to be thanked for getting rid of it because glossy surfaces attract a lot of finger prints and hence gives it a dirty look. On the top, you just have the logo branding and nothing else. Sony PlayStation 3 Slim now has physical and not the touch sensitive buttons found on the original mode. It now comes with a 120 GB hard drive, and the Blu-ray optical drive is still there for playing high definition games and movies. Apart from that, there are two USB jacks and a Wi-Fi on the front. The hard drive can be upgraded  [...]

Amazon Kindle (3G, Wi-Fi, graphite)

thumbnail
Apart from the changes in design and size, the new Amazon Kindle also has Wi-Fi and 3G thrown in. This model comes with a couple of flavors. One has both Wi-Fi and 3G, where as the other one just has Wi-Fi. The latter version is cheaper by $50. There are two color options for this model – graphite and white. I got the graphite version in my labs for testing and it looked quite attractive. I won’t recommend the white model to hygiene freaks since white gadgets are known to accumulate dust quite easily and hence looks dirty after some time. The new Amazon Kindle also has a more memory. You have four GB of internal memory to store the e-books and other files. The predecessor had 2 GB of internal memory and now you its gets even more spacious. The battery life is doubled from two weeks to four weeks with the wireless turned off. So you can stay away from the power plug for a longer time. There is more to Amazon Kindle than just reading e-books but  [...]

thumbnail
Headphone belong to that category of peripherals that both at dirt cheap and sky high prices. Klipsch Image S4 is a cheap set of headphones which comes at an $80 price tag and still perform like those headphones which cost more than $100. They have noise cancellation feature which make sure outside noise stays out. If you are looking for replacement for your current mp3 player headphones, we would certainly recommend you to go for this. The oval ear tips on the headphones feel really comfortable and soft on the ears. Klipsch gives you three ear tips, one of them is for really large ears. Heartbeats By Lada Gaga Headphones From Monster – Stunning Looks

thumbnail
Lady Gaga perhaps made sure that this pair of headphones really looks good before she gave permission for her name to be used on the set. Some might feel that the manufacturers have tried to be too fashionable but looking at Lady Gaga’s lifestyle, we completely understand. The price of these super sexy headphones is $120 but you can get it around for $100 if purchased online. The stylish headphones are made for women and we doubt if men would buy it even if it didn’t have the name of the pop star on the set. The build of the headphone is too feminine for men, especially with the attached triangular earpieces. While the triangular blocks on the headphones look good they are not ergonomically comfortable in the ear because the edges of the triangle blocks press against the skin of the ear and hence cause discomfort. It also makes the buds come out of the ear occasionally. The manufacturer bundles three sizes of the silicone made ear  [...]
