SONY: MH907… Was The Juice Worth It??

thumbnail
Ahaa... change the way you listen to music... well like it was reported earlier this one was just another gimmick by Sony to launch a new pair of headphones. Damn, and everyone almost got into a tizzy after having having a look at the teaser site which blared the words “ change music forever”. Dampening everyones expectations of a new range of walkman, Sony has finally launched the MH907s which make use of the ears to control music. Getting into the details of how this one works… the music player is activated when the two buds are inserted into the ears and when you take one of them out to do some other work, the music switches to the pause mode. Also when you get a call all you have to do is simple pop one in a lughole and the phone will answer the phone will hang up when u remove it. Apparently this one works by sensing the presence of the ear. What we can conjure by this is that the sensor gets activated when it is sheathed by skin.

Windows 7: Netbook Functionality Wont Be Marred

thumbnail
The latest buzz doing the rounds here in San Francisco is that there is a Windows 7 version being launched for the netbook which in all probability will not be trickled out of most of its functionality. This means that in all there will be seven versions of the windows being launched. The news doing the round in the first half of the year was that Microsoft was likely to cut down on quite a few applications in its Windows 7 version for netbooks just because with the charge of the entire OS the pricing of the netbook would also rise to a totally new level. What is left to be seen is how Microsoft manages to adjust the Windows 7 pricing when it comes to the netbooks. However there is pressure being applied by Intel and the Original design manufacturers who build the machines and are in a tizzy over the fact that the machines would be considered inferior if the functionality is reduced. So let’s just wait n watch  [...]

Google’s plans of coming up with a registry wherein it will pay the authors whose books it scans and searches for online has received another jolt with the U.S government ruling against it. The entire plan of creating an online digital book library has suffered a huge setback because of this judgement. According to the Manhattan Court that is considering the whether the agreement abides by the laws or not and the Justice Department, the proposal should be rejected in its present form and the negotiations with different parties should be continued in order to adhere with the antitrust and the copyright laws. According to the settlement Google will pay  $125 million into a registry which will in turn pay the authors whose books are being used and reused. Google has already received a lot of criticism saying that it is trying to look for a crooked advantage in putting its plan into action and now to top it all  [...]

Lunar Orbiter Starts Mapping The Moon, Traces Out Hydrogen

thumbnail
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, after two-months of site surveillance and measurements, was put into a 31 mile high mapping orbit by the NASA engineers. The $504 million spacecraft’s instruments are analyzing the possibilities of iced water present on the moon. NASA's chief lunar scientist, Michael Wargo made a statement saying that, “The moon is starting to reveal her secrets, but some of those secrets are tantalizingly complex”. The NASA engineers and the scientists expect the spacecraft to find traces of hydrogen, which is the biggest indicator to point out the possibility of some water presence. They are scanning the shadowed crater of the south –pole and also craters which were struck by craters years ago by comets billions of years ago. There is a probability of ice formation in these craters. Touch What You See

thumbnail
Seeing is believing, but I guess for the scientists at Japan the phrase could be reframed as touching is believing. At Nintendo Wii, the Japanese scientists have come up with an unique way to interact with 3D images which gives you a feeling of having touched the objects. There are Wii-mote controllers to keep a track of the movement and also there is use of ultra sound to apply pressure so that the user feels like its touching it. So far the technology has been used only on small objects but using it to create virtual light switches is also on the cards. Holography had always been used to give the 3D sort of an effect to the user but whenever the user used to touch the hologram, the hand used to pass right through it. But with the launch of this new technology a sensation of touch could be added to the holograms. Well, I really cant think of many instances where this technology could come in as handy, but surely this technology  [...]
