The Whiz Kid Speaks:
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is a wired USB keyboard which has features like Palm rest, PerfectStroke and has backlighting for using in the dark. The connections on the board is 1 x USB – 4 pin USB Type A. There are keys on the board which can be used for e-mail, internet browsing and multimedia.
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is compatible with Windows 7, XP and Vista. It comes with three years warranty.
This slim sexy Logitech Illuminated Keyboard made us drool all day in our test centers. The keyboard has plastic border on all four sides which emphasizes it slimness. It is just 9.3 mm thick. The design of the keyboard is good and there is a rubber sheet on the wrist rest so that your hands won’t slip when you type. If you type for a long time you will notice finger prints that appear on the keyboard and it might not go well with you if you are a hygiene freak.
Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is a simple keyboard and though the name looks somewhat intimidating it is a computer peripheral which is kept at a low price range and the only specialty it has is the back lighting. This can be great if you are typing in the dark. The keyboard doesn’t have features which normal gaming keyboards have like volume controls or scroll dials. But this has probably done to keep the price under the limit.
The keys have micro lens reflectors fitted beneath each key so that it gives you a light blue effect. This light effect is awesome when typing in the dark. There are three levels for you to customize the intensity of lighting and you can choose to switch it off if you don’t need it.
The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard has two feet on the top behind the body which is there for better typing experience. This keyboard is quite similar to keyboard of the IBM Thinkpad laptop
You don’t need to install any drivers for the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard since it is a plug and play interface. But there are 12 customizable keys at the top of the keyboard which let you launch application such as the web browser and if you need them, then you will have to install the bundled 4.6 KB software. SetPoint desktop software has tips in it about how to get the most comfortable experience while typing on the keyboard.
The most important feature of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard has to be the Logitech’s PerfectStroke key design. There is a 3.2 mm space between the keys on the board which Logitech claims is better ergonomics while typing. Initially we disagreed to this but then we found ourselves typing faster over a period of time when we got used to it.
So now lets come to the short comings of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard, it doesn’t have USB ports on it so that we can attach a pen drive right to the keyboard. True, we have a few ports on the keyboard but many of them are occupied with the rising number of USB devices and a few ports on the keyboard would have been good. Even basic keyboards these days have such ports. On the other side, maybe this is done to keep the keyboard slim. We would have liked a wireless connectivity option but again that is up to you, some gamers are ready to give up wireless connectivity for better game play.
In spite of the drawbacks we will recommend the Logitech Illuminated Keyboad to owls who like to sit late in the night and play games in the dark. This keyboard is definitely not for a high end gamer though because it doesn’t have those options which gamming keyboards have. But we will recommend this keyboard for its slim design and sexy lighting.
