Logitech MK700- Great On Ergonomics

Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:

Great ergonomics, the cushion beneath the keyboard makes typing really comfortable, great battery life, button to toggle the mouse scroll wheel.

Thumbs Down:

None.

Inside the Trunk:

Wireless Keyboard and Mouse, USB dongle device for wireless connectivity.

The Whiz Kid Speaks:

Logitech MK700 is a wireless keyboard and mouse set which interface of 2.4 GHz, maximum operating distance is 33 ft, the keyboard has palm rest on the bottom for ergonomic typing. The keyboard and mouse run on 2 AA sized batteries each.

The OS supported are Microsoft Windows Vista / XP and Microsoft Windows 7. You also need a USB port to plug in the USB dongle device.

Razzle Dazzle:

Logitech doesn’t do anything out of the box with the Logitech MK700 but we are not complaining much here. Because although the looks are plain jane the performance is good. The only piece of eye candy is the tiny LCD on the top of the board which shows battery status and also shows you whether the caps, scroll and num lock keys are on.

Inside Dope:

We all know Logitech’s prowess when it comes to making keyboard and mice. It is the one of the biggest makers of such peripherals and you will seldom have anything about it to complain about. They make all kinds of keyboard right from gamming to light usage and the Wireless Desktop MK700 belongs to the latter category but by no means is a cheap set. It is made for the budget user who wants a modest keyboard and mice without all the rings and bells.

This set doesn’t have Logitech’s unifying receiver something that lets us connect multiple Logitech’s peripherals through a single USB device. Rest of the features like great ergonomics, adjusting the scroll wheel of the mouse and great battery life are still there.

Logitech mk700 review

So the most unique selling point of this keyboard in the set is the curved keys, which is called ‘Incurve’. The keys are concave in the middle and curved towards upwards on the edges. Logitech said this is done to provide better ergonomics while typing and we really did feel comfortable on this set. Logitech also said that it won’t be tiresome typing on this board for hours on end since the shape of the keys is made keeping in mind the design of the fingers. There is a cushion palm rest below the keys which make superb ergonomics along with the soft keys.

On the top of the board there are buttons that let you control media playback and there is also a really tiny LCD that tells you the battery status and is the caps, num and scroll indicator. But we thought the LCD was more of a gimmick than a use full feature. There could have been lamps on keyboard for the three keys and the battery of the keyboard is long enough so may not need this everyday.

Apart from that, there are buttons for calculator, media player, mail box, etc. Logitech SetPoint application lets you program these keys for bringing up applications that you want just by a press of a key.

The curved mouse was quite similar in looks to the Logitech Performance Mouse MX but when you look closer you will realize that this is a bit narrower and doesn’t fit as comfortably in the hands. There are six buttons on the mouse – right and left clickers, scroll dial, 2 back and forward buttons and application short cut key. Again all the buttons are placed ergonomically so that you can reach to them easily when needed. You can program these buttons too with the SetPoint application. The mouse has an LED indicator that tells you the battery status; it will blink when you are running out of power.

Hyper-Fast feature which lets you toggle between free spinning scroll wheel and notched one is still here and you get a button below the device which lets you toggle them. You might find it irritating to lift up and turn the mouse every time to switch between.

We found the long battery life to be the best part of the mouse and keyboard. The keyboard and mouse need two AA sized batteries. Logitech says that keyboard has battery life of three years and mouse has battery life of one year. But remember to switch off the device when you are not using it to save battery life.

The set comes with a single USB device that detects both the mouse and keyboard and since this set doesn’t support Unifying technology you cannot use the USB dongle with other Logitech’s devices. But you don’t lose much if you don’t have much Logitech’s devices.

Nitty Gritty:

Wireless Desktop MK700 is great set of keyboard and mouse even though not the best. But for a price like this you don’t need to look further. We really liked the curved keys, toggle button for changing mouse scroll behavior and the great battery life.
