Nintendo unveils the 3DS




There have been rumors floating around that Nintendo was going to come out with the 3DS and they have come true now. Nintendo President Saturo Iwata officially announced the first ever 3D gaming console at the E3 press conference held by the company. In terms of looks, this new product is quite similar to the DSi but there are some new features like three and half inch 3D screen on the upper half and a standard touch screen at the bottom.

On the touch screen’s left, you have the analog ’slide button’ which can be used a joystick and the standard D-pad is also there. The manufacturer did not reveal the technology behind the 3D feature but the president said that you can adjust the depth of 3D by adjusting the slider. You can tune it according to your personal preference.

There have been lots of graphical changes in the Nintendo 3DS, the president showed all this in the conference. There is a camera above the upper screen and on the outside, you have dual lenses. This camera set up lets you take 3D photos. You can also play older Nintendo DS games on the 3DS.

Saturo Iwata said that Wi-Fi is very important in such devices these days and hence they have put in the feature in the new Nintendo 3DS. He further said that this console can interact with other compatible products while in sleep mode but not much details were revealed about this.

This is the first 3D handheld gaming console and hence there has to be new line up of 3D games for this product. Lots of companies are working to making 3DS games. Few amongst them are Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Sega, Harmonix, Atlus, Activision, and EA. The games by these companies include Hollywood 61, Battle Giants: Dinosaur Strike, Samurai Warriors, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles, Ridge Racer, Assassin’s Creed, DJ Hero 3D, Batman, The Sims 3, Resident Evil Revelations, Ninja Gaiden, FIFA Soccer, Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, Saints Row, and Kingdom of Hearts.

Apart from Kid Icarus Uprising, there was another big first party game for this console – Nintendogs but it includes cats too this time. The manufacturer has announced some more first party games like Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, PilotWings Resort, StarFox 64 3D, Paper Mario and Steel Diver. All these are still under development stages.

There were some partnerships announced as well for the 3D movie content on the 3DS. They include Dreamworks (How to Train a Dragon), Warner Brothers (Legends of the Guardian) and Disney (Tangled).

The release date or price for this product has not been revealed yet by the manufacturer but we will update this section soon when the company comes out with that.
