Nikon D100 – Good grip

thumbnail
Nikon D100 looks pretty similar to the manufacturer's own F100 and N80 SLR digital camera. The control scheme and the body design is familiar and you won't have to spend much time with the camera for getting to know it. Anyone who is familiar with Nikon cameras will get along with the D100 just fine. The manufacturer has put a great combination of plastic and metal for the body and the dimensions of the device is 5.7 inches by 4.6 inches by 3.2 inches or 114 by 116 by 81 mm. The mix of metal and plastic keeps the weight of the camera under control; the Nikon D100 is just 416 grams or 14.7 ounces without the lens or battery. According to me, the Nikon D100 camera body is just perfect. It is not too heavy and the balance in the hand too is excellent. I could easily grip the camera in my hand and almost all sizes of  [...]

Olympus waterproof camera – Tough 8000 – Easy to use

thumbnail
Olympus Tough 8000 has a body made up of shiny and bright chrome having visible screws. The device gives a dense and sturdy feel in the hand and I feel it lives up to the name. The display is big enough at 2.7 inches but the resolution could have been higher; you just get 230,000 pixels. I liked the layout of the buttons on this Olympus waterproof camera; it is quite ergonomic to use. On the top rear side, there are paired buttons for controlling the zoom feature. Underneath this, you have mode selection wheel which lets you cycle through the "regular" shooting, Beauty, Scene, Intelligent Automatic, Playback, and Video modes. There is a 4 way direction button with OK button in the middle. The 4 buttons relate to Macro, Self-Timer, Flash and Exposure Compensation settings. On the camera’s top edge, there are just 2 buttons – shutter release and power toggle. The Olympus Tough 8000’s waterproof design is obvious when you look at the memory card/battery compartment  [...]

Nikon Coolpix P90 – tiltable screen

thumbnail
Except for the improvement in  screen and a few changes for the mode dial, the Nikon Coolpix P90 isn’t different from P80. P90 is heavier at more than 400 grams weight and the dimensions too are bigger. There is a dedicated button which gives you access to the shooting controls which are frequently used like focus modes (manual, infinity and macro), exposure compensation, flas and self-timer (slow sync, rear curtain, fill, red-eye reduction). Apart from the buttons, there is a back dial for navigating and this too gives you controls for aperture, exposure and shutter in variety of shooting modes. The mode dial has been improved by Nikon here; the Setup has been moved in the menu and it is replaced with 2 custom settings slot and Scene Auto Selector mode. Other controls on the Nikon Coolpix P90  [...]

Nikon D3000 camera – Mushy multiselector buttons

thumbnail
Nikon D3000 camera feels, operates and looks a lot like a low-end dSLR. It is a bit heavier than its siblings but the difference isn’t huge. Also, it feels solid and well made having a nice grip. The Fn button is programmable and it can be set for controlling the image quality, release mode, self-timer, white balance, ISO sensitivity or Active D-Lighting menus. The viewfinder has toggle button for grid display and it lies close to the thumb. But it is a bit difficult to differentiate from compensation/flash pop-up button which sets there alone. Behind the power switch and power switch, there are info and exposure compensation buttons. The info is used for toggling the back display. The top model dial has the usual PASM options – Program, Manual, Shutter and Aperture priority along with full auto modes. The manufacturer has added a twist on the Nikon D3000 camera here – there is a Guide Mode which provides help for the shooting  [...]

Olympus Pen camera E-PL1 – With a dedicated record button

thumbnail
Olympus Pen camera E-PL1 has a tradition design and the manufacturer has borrowed a lot of design cues from other digital cameras like Panasonic Lumix LX models and Canon PowerShot G series models. The aluminum and plastic body doesn’t have that typical tanklike feel that I have seen in other E-P models and the device is quite sturdy with a comfortable and large grip. I found it a bit slippery to hold in my hands particularly with the winter dry hands. This Olympus Pen camera is better than the sibling models with a discrete video record button and on the dial, there is a movie mode. The layout of operation and control is quite similar to other advanced Olympus cameras. Hence if you have used Olympus products previously, you won’t have to spend a lot of time learning how to use the Olympus Pen camera E-PL1. On the screen’s right, there is LCD run playback, menu, delete and info buttons. There is also a user programmable function button which can  [...]

Registry cleaners review of System Mechanic

thumbnail
You might have heard of a lot of registry cleaners out there but System Mechanic is a lot different from them. This software is selling like hot cakes all over and it has the most complete and safest suite of performance tools that I have ever seen to date. Using the System Mechanic registry cleaners, you can improve the startup time for Windows and infections in the computer are removed. This will give you faster Internet browsing and download speed. System Mechanic registry cleaners come with three level registry optimization speed and it speeds up the computer beyond what ordinary cleaners can give you. There is also something called ActiveCare 2.0 which will run in the background for optimizing and fixing when the PC is inactive. It doesn’t interferes with messages or schedulers and automatically stops as soon as your computer wants resources for other applications. System  [...]

FrostWire – Another P2P client

thumbnail
This code is derived from LimeWire Pro which is a paid version of the client but I bet none of you know about the paid version because everyone is using the free one. FrostWire interface hasn’t changed much apart from a few basic color changes. There are tabs having rounded corners and also connections which monitor the incoming and outgoing connections by the host name. Apart from that, it gives you the details of the bandwidth connection and version and vendor that are currently in use. Another cool addition is the chat feature which is now built in to FrostWire. So you see, apart from the basics, both LimeWire and FrostWire have a lot in common which isn’t surprising since both of them come from the same stable. These two applications are written in Java and offer support for a lot of platforms. FrostWire has one advantage over the  [...]

Netflix Queue Manager – MovieFlick

thumbnail
I am a huge fan of Netflix and have been looking for something on the internet for managing my Netflix queue. Netflix doesn’t have their own native application so if you wish to do this on the iPhone, it can be done only through a third party app. I have tried a lot of apps out there but the MovieFlick is the best for managing Netflix queue. I must also admit that all Netflix queue managers come with their own set of drawbacks and not all of them are perfect. Each one has its own pros and cons. Typically speaking, a Netflix app needs to have few things that I will be using all the time. These things need to be there even before I start consider getting it. Firstly, the search has to be fast and good. The previews of movie are pretty quick so I should be able to find the movie fast and then add it to the queue.  [...]

ImgBurn – User friendly interface

thumbnail
I was looking on the Internet for some easy and free application to copy homemade DVDs and I got Imgburn. It is a free application which can burn CDs and DVDs for you. Other than that it also makes it easy to burn and create .iso files. I really liked this program because it has a very small footprint and it doesn’t take a long time for loading tons of features that you’d probably never use. The user interface is intuitive and simple and all the disc information that you’d need is displayed clearly. Imgburn can do a lot more than the things that I have mentioned above but one feature that I really liked was apart from the standard bar of progress that all other DVD/CD burning programs give you; ImgBurn has something that I’ll call ‘play-by-play’ burning process. This window can be removed but I liked it open as it gives you a step-by-step walkthrough of what is going on under the hood. This is great for people like me who burn a lot of discs – I get to  [...]

Orbit downloader – User friendly download software

thumbnail
Orbit downloader is download managing software and it is offered for free. The application supports RTSP, MMS, FTP, HTTPS and HTTP protocols and also the P2P technology. The software is famous all over because of its acceleration capabilities. The downloads are accelerated by using multiple connection streams and it offers download management along with the custom categories and you can also resume/pause the downloads. The application can be used for downloading videos from YouTube and other such video sites. You just have to hover the mouse pointer over the clip and you will see an option for downloading the file in .flv or .swf format on the computer. Other features worth mentioning here are browser integration (it wors with Opera, Firefox, IE), download scheduling, proxy support, antivirus integration, drop target, etc. I tried using the Orbit downloader for a lot of files and it really lives up to the promises. Downloads were faster and there weren’t any disconnections  [...]
