Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Digital Camera Review
Lumix DMC-GF1 is great camera and totally value for its money, it is meant for professional photographers, not newbies.
Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:
Easy to hold design, plenty of options for expert users, has optical zoom.
Thumbs Down:
No optical viewfinder, Can’t use EVF and hot-shoe flash at the same time.
Inside the trunk:
Body cap , Lens cap , Shoulder strap, Power Adapter, Battery Charger, Drivers and Utilities disc.
Razzle Dazzle:
Lumix DMC-GF1 is not for people who have never handled a camera or don’t know much about it. It is for professional photographers. There are plethora of options on the camera that would confuse the people who have never used one.
The Whiz Kid Speaks:
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is a 12.1 mega pixel camera with interchangeable lens. It has 4x digital zoom and 3.2x optical zoom. Pictures are stored in JPEG format. Image resolution has plenty of options from 4000 x 3000 to 1504 x 1504. There are six flash modes. On the back of the camera there is three inch LCD display for displaying options and the photographs that you have clicked. Connectors on the camera are USB, Composite video/audio output, HDMI output and Remote control. Expansion cards support is available and you can use SD memory card.

Inside Dope:
This device has all the features that one looks in a camera. The lens of the camera bulges out for finer pictures. This camera doesn’t have a view finder though and so this disappoint the people who are use this feature. Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 feels great on your hand and it is comfortable to hold it, the Nikon Coolpix S70 which we reviewed earlier had a lot of issues while handling and we ended up getting our finger in between the lens most of the time.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is simple to use in basic controls and basic photography. There is a camera memory where in you can store up to six faces along with their names and birthdays.
There are also settings to change the aperture and shutter speed and see the effects in advanced, just like “print preview” in computers. Storing of video content is available in formats of AVCHD or Motion JPEG MOV files. You will find that the AVCHD is better than the motion JPEG format.
It also has four levels of intelligent exposure and four levels of wind filtering.
It supports video recording at 720p resolution. The video recording quality of this device is a bit letdown and I have seen better video capture cameras than this. The 720p video will look stretched when you are watching it on a large TV.
Nitty Gritty:
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 was made to compete with cameras like Olympus E-P1 and it does the job well. We say that this camera has all the features that you need in a high-end camera. The interchangeable lens adds to the utility of this product. But cameras in this price range have an optical viewfinder, other than this we thought this was the best one.
