Review Of Apple iMac

When Apple does something, they do it with style. They have done it yet again with the Apple iMac.

Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:

Huge 27 inch screen, Great looks, SD card slot, Wireless Mouse and Keyboard, SD Card Slot.

Thumbs Down:

No Blu Ray Drive, Core 2 Duo processor used instead of Quad core technology, Glossy Screen.

Inside the Trunk:

The Apple iMac sports a big 27 inch screen, 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200, 4GB (2GB X 2) 1,067MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 4670, 1TB 7,200rpm (SATA), Dual-Layer DVD burner, Apple OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1, L2 Cache (3 MB per processor) Wireless Mouse and Keyboard, has Camera, Antenna, Stereo Speakers, Infrared Receiver,. Along with this you get Power Cable and Cleaning Cloth.

The Whiz Kid Speaks:

The Apple iMac computer is a very pretty device and gives a the-guy-who-owns-this-must-be-rich feel, 27 inch screen for computers have been unheard of till now and Windows doesn’t have such big screens. On the inside there is a Core 2 Duo processor, doesn’t have a Blu ray drive, but has a good graphic card and has wireless keyboard and mouse.

Razzle Dazzle:

The Apple iMac is the successor of the 24 inch model and is downright sexy. There is very little room for improvement for this beast. The wireless connectivity of the keyboard and mouse is icing on the cake. You see no wires dangling around and at first look, it seems there are 3 separate devices kept close to each other (monitor, keyboard and mouse) Apple iMac 24 inch is nowhere short in the looks department. The computer has an all aluminum finish body and looks very shiny. The mouse and the keyboard too is all aluminum. Apple has used the same technology for outer body as that it used in Apple iMac 24 inch and the iPods.

Inside Dope:

The Apple iMac 27 inch is a great looking computer and we couldn’t get enough of staring at it. It sports the thin look that Apple products have been known to have. This is the first time that a 27-inch screen has been used in a computer. Windows has never used this and 24 inch is the closest that Apple has got and that was the company’s earlier model.

So let’s talk more about the screen. This 27 inch beast supports 2,560×1,440 pixels. Watching movies and playing games are absolute pleasure on this baby. Also this screen is an IPS (In-line plane switching) which is superior to other TN panels that are mostly used. TN panels have one drawback that the whites do not appear that bright and the darks are so dark that it can’t be seen, all you see is a big black patch. This is clear when you watch movies or play games. Since this is a IPS panel you won’t face this problem.

A larger resolution also gives you more space to work within the screen. The 27 inch monitor will easily fit in two screens of Safari (Apple’s default browser) and will still give you more room on the monitor. You can work with 2 windows open at the same time and see all the data in it without scrolling on the sides.

The processor is 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 and we don’t know why a Quad Core processor is not used. Quad Core processors are used everywhere and Dual Core is fading away. Apple often refuses to play heed to market requirements and comes up with their own dough. This Core 2 Duo processor is good and it is fast, but it might get slow when new softwares come up in the market that need more speed.

The inclusion of Graphic card is like icing on the cake for this monitor. We were glad to see the Apple iMac 27 inch sport a ATI Radeon HD 4670. Card of this class is fast enough and will go well with graphic designers and game enthusiasts.

There is no Blu-Ray drive inside the computer and all you get is DVD Ray burner. Movie bluffs won’t be happy with this, as movie content is mostly on Blu-Ray media. But then the spread of Blu-ray technology has not spread that deep and the growth of Blu-Ray meida is not as fast as DVD technology, either because people are content with the storage space that they get in a DVD ROM (8.7 GB in case of dual layer) or either because of high cost of Blu-Ray media.

There is 1 TB hard drive so probably you will never complain about the lack of disk space on this computer and 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM is put in to overcome the possible lack speed due to the slow processor (we were expecting Quad Core processor)
The system is also equipped with wireless keyboard and mouse. So say good bye to messy cables. The keyboard and mouse ooze style all the time you won’t enough of looking at them, the mouse especially is carved very differently.

Apple iMac comes bundled with Apple MacOS X 10.6.

Apple has also included SD card slot on the computer. Customers have been complaining about the lack of SD card slot on the Apple computers and it seems that Apple has finally heard their prayers.

Nitty Gritty:

We just couldn’t get enough of the attractiveness of Apple iMac 27 inch. Everything about it looks right in place, from the huge screen to the wireless mouse and keyboard. The computer has its own area of issues though, it doesn’t have a Blu-Ray drive, nor does it have a Quad Core class processor. So if you are fans of either of these you’d better see somewhere else. But this computer is hard to resist with its downright sexy looks and all wireless connectivity of keyboard, mouse and monitor. This is the best package of technology and eye candy all rolled into one!
