The Whiz Kid Speaks: This pioneering Windows 7 user computer is a good one that is first going to attract you with its striking looks. It has 23-inch touch-screen and a good assembly of components which are going to impress you in no time. The framework is really well designed. However, the touch screen is a bit sluggish in responding to your commands. This interface requires a revamp with a whole lot of all-in-one features which are expected to hit the markets soon.
If you are on the lookout of a big screened computer with good hardware performance, this is the computer for you but if it is touchscreen response agility that you want, you’d better go for another model or just wait for some stuff that is coming up for the Windows 7. Well, the design, though better than the earlier 2007 version is not what I’d like to call “truly innovative”. There are some applications that are specifically touch sensitive, but almost all programs are driven by the human touch. The Touch Smart Series of HP might claim that it’s bringing in a revolution in the touch screen technology for computers; the Gateway One is more modest. You don’t really expect any such magic from this. If you see today the markets have only a few programs that are designed for touch technology. So the technology is still in its fledgling stage in the present times.
Of course this does not mean to say that the Gateway is not up to the mark in its touch capabilities. In fact this was mentioned in the media news. In the present times since, Windows has come with touch supporting utilities and since the touch software has become so very reasonable in its pricing you can expect a lot of high-end computers to include the touch feature. Gateway is surely not expected to be the only computer with Windows 7. Soon a lot of new generation computers will come up with Windows 7 operating system.
However, the unsatisfactory responsiveness of the Gateway One is what puts it in a distinct category that is not at par with its contemporaries. The main windows of the Windows 7 were responsive enough but the flap icon showed unsatisfactory animation when it was opened to reach the Touch Portal. Though there are a lot of games and media touch applications, some of them, apart from being unsatisfactorily responsive, also crashed or had bad interfaces that made these applications literally unusable. One can never know if the onus of such a failed application system lies with Windows 7 or with how Gateways had incorporated it.

The touch technology is not every thing for this computer. It is just a part of it. Apart from that there are many other aspects on which you can judge this computer. On the plus side, the Gateway is a very sturdy one. It is an all-in-one PC and since it is not all that delicate you can expect to use it for any heavy duty work. So here’s a computer meant for serious work. You really need not compare the Gateway with the all-in-one computers belonging to the older generations. Nowadays there are so many companies coming out with all-in-one high end PC s. Apple is expected to come out with one in the next couple of months or so. In the present times the 24 inch iMac is the only computer that gives competition to the Gateway One ZX6810-01.
Nitty Gritty: The Gateway One ZX6810-01 scores over the iMac in its processor capabilities. Windows 7 gives the conventional multitasking processor of Apple close competition. A huge array of PC games, a 1 GB midrange ATI graphics card, make the Gateway One ZX6810-01 a good gaming PC with a good competition for iMac. The 64 GB solid state hard drive is also very impressive.
