Review Of Sharp LC-LE700UN Television

Sharp’s latest offering is a great LCD with LED backlighting which is extremely soft on the planet. The LC-LE700UN series is packed to the core with features and offers a great picture quality at an affordable price.

Sum and Substance:
Thumbs Up:

Sharp offers attractive price for an amazing LCD series. These LCDs are quite energy efficient. Salient features such as video processing which can separate antiblur and dejudder functions. Interesting selection of interactive widgets. Sharp also offers live help through a built in support system. The LCDs have an extensive array of connectivity options such as four HDMI ports and PC input.

Thumbs Down:

Black levels on these LCDs are not as deep as competition and average market levels. The glossy screen reflects the ambient light, creating distractions for the viewer.

Inside The Trunk:

The LC-LE700UN series offers a 120Hz refresh rate which helps in providing better resolution in comparison to the competition. This is best seen when you are viewing HD quality content on your LCD. The 52 inch and the 46 inch models both offer a dejudder processing function, while Sharp has not included it in the two smaller siblings, the 40 and the 32 inch. You receive Live help through the built in support. Upon connecting to the internet, you can access a number of widgets. The system is called the Aquos Net and is similar to the Yahoo widgets found on other brands like Samsung. You can exercise full control on color management. There are a total of four HDMI ports, two component jacks, a RV cable input, an RS-232 connection, a USB port, and Ethernet cable to access the Aquos net. This truly is a marvel of connectivity and you can possibly hook up all your home or office systems on this LCD.

The Whiz Kid Speaks:

What struck me first is the energy efficiency of the latest Sharp series of LCDs. The LCD will also tell you how much energy is being saved and in this era of global warming summits and deforestation campaigns, this may just be our personal contribution! No more carbon footprint worries! It uses as much power as your standard light bulb. The other features are quite similar to what the competition is offering, including the Aquos net, a Sharp variant of Yahoo Widgets. One great widget was the one that reported the local traffic conditions. (pretty helpful, huh?)The live support is attractive and helpful. We also liked the menu. There are some downs though, which are rather insignificant. The Sharp supplied black gloss stand does not allow the LCD to swivel. The screens are also not too thin, measuring about 3.7 inches, without the stand. We also liked the connectivity options. All in all, a nice LCD; but no path breaking technology to report from my end.

Razzle Dazzle:

There are many features of the LC-LE700UN series, but none of them are really new or path breaking. The LCDs are great viewing, with a dazzling picture quality and pleasant viewing. Where this LCD becomes more than just a television is the Aquos Net. From traffic conditions to weather which was more detailed than we have seen before. The weather widget even has a Doppler mapping of the area.  Picasa widget could be used to view slideshows or upload photos. The variety of connectivity options was well placed and planned. The LCD television market is flattening out and all the competitors are offering similar services and products. The prices for such high end televisions is also crashing.

Inside Dope:

Sharp hasn’t changed the remote for its LCDs in quite some time, and if you have used a Aquos before than you will take no time getting used to the one supplied with this series of LCDs. You can now connect four HDMI inputs, a USB pen drive and the Ethernet cable in addition to loads of other options. The picture quality of the LCD was good, and on par with similar models in the market. The screens are glossy, and that could create problems with ambient lights, so take care on where you plan to place your LCD. You can now access Picasa from your LCD and upload pictures from your pen drive which you can connect to your set. The in-built support system also has a glossary for all the terms that you might encounter while fidgeting around with this set. There are three energy saving options, which give you control on the brightness and contrast apart for other parameters. The LC-LE700UN series handles HD quality well, rendering pleasing picture and sound.

Sharp’s new dejudder processing comes in two strengths, which have been labeled as the Advanced (Low) and Advanced (High) in the Film Mode menu. The impact of the dejudder was less evident in the normal scenes during the test, but sometimes it kicked in suddenly, and rendered an image softer than required.

Nitty Gritty:

The LED backlit Sharp LC-LE 700UN series is a good contender but not a class champion. The LED backlighting edge of these LCD was barely noticeable. The overall performance was good and we were happy with the Aquos Net. From our point of view, making the screen glossy was a wrong call by Sharp. The stand also should’ve had a swivel. A good LCD with great features for an attractive price, sounds good?
