THE WHIZ-KID SPEAKS: Move aside Wilson Audio, this masterpiece from the Magico range is here to stay. Well, all the drama aside the V2 surely is the most exhilarating loudspeaker to have been introduced in the last few years. It comes along with a price tag of 18000 pounds and must I add that this one is just an entry level model. Magico has many other high end and more expensive speakers coming up in the near future. Anyways moving to the review of this one…
Razzle-dazzle: My first reaction when I saw the V2 was ‘ahaa.. another conventional looking speaker… drab’. Having seen the breath taking design of the Mini2 I was expecting something more funky and probably spectacular. But I guess the makers went ahead with a simple traditional design just too make sure that the pricing doesn’t burn a hole in the buyer’s pocket. Still I must add though this one might not look as dashing as the other high end speakers it is highly coherent and possibly the best when it comes to the minute details.
Well I was also surprised by the infinite baffle mounting that it used. I mean most of its competitors are using the bass reflex porting and this one from Magico goes back to the sealed box. The question that immediately popped into my mind was why the sealed box after all and I am sure the makers have the answer to it. And well I got the answer from none other than Alan wolf a.k.a Dr. Quantum. According to him the bass reflex systems are inherently compromised and excessively resonant at times which lead to difficult management of systems at times. Also a sealed box arrangement according to him is the best if it can be executed well. The problem with using this kind of an arrangement is that it starts with offering slower attenuation at higher frequencies and moves on to the lower frequencies. What can happen in such cases is that the balance between the two can be audibly lean. But I am sure Magico has sorted this one out and to find that out read on…
Inside dope: With all the blabbering about its looks over, I must add this one for sure is an invention that could send almost anyone drooling over the absolute spectacle the makers have come up with as far the engineering is concerned. I seriously don’t know from where to start with just because of the fact that almost everything has been so perfectly done that it is almost difficult to write an unbiased review.
There is no sign of discontinuity between the bass, the mid band and treble. Almost each one starts off from where the last one left which is in itself quite commendable. the performance is absolutely a seamless which not many of Magico’s competitors can boast of. Amongst all the tweeters, the Relevator tweeter to be precise is quite different and a far superior one as compared to the earlier version of the same model.

Hmm.. coming back to the question framed earlier… is balance lean?? Well the answer is not exactly… just a little bit. But I guess this is just because the V2 is the dearth of loose underamped upper bass. There is hardly any boom and almost negligible room boom. Also there is no need to place the speakers near the walls or anything of that sort to encourage early reflections. Infact, in the case of V2 its quite much the opposite. The V2 displays best speeds and articulations when it is kept in an open unhampered environment. Also it loves plenty of clear amplifications.
Nitty-Gritty: Firstly I would love to congratulate the makers of this one for coming up with this enthralling combination of sound and technology which could just stir anyone up with its outstanding music quality. I am actually falling short of adjectives to describe the most astounding sound quality that I have ever heard. Probably with this one I would really love to go back to the sealed box design. Agreed that the price is a bit steep, but after knowing the kind of engineering that this one has gone through I would love pay the price for it. Surely it’s the stuff an engineers dreams are made up of… kudos again to the makers.
